December 25, Fineko/abc.az. Growth in domestic production allowed Philippine authorities to extend the ban on sugar imports until December 2026.
ABC.AZ informs that the ban is aimed at stabilizing the market, as well as protecting farmers and domestic producers, Agriculture Minister Francisco Tiu Laurel told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The ban came into force in mid-October 2025 for a period of one year. The incoming inventory data and production forecast made it possible to extend the ban.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Sugar Industry Regulatory Authority are preparing a regulatory framework to regulate molasses imports to protect domestic producers, Tiu Laurela added.
