September 12, Fineko/abc.az. This year, China is expected to overtake Germany and become the world’s largest importer of pipeline natural gas thanks to increased supplies from Russia. As reported by ABC.AZ, this shift highlights the transformation of the gas market after global energy trade began to change in 2022, when Germany stopped importing Russian gas and switched to LNG from other suppliers. According to Rystad Energy forecasts, pipeline gas imports to China will rise to 79 bcm this year, while in Germany this figure will be less than 71 bcm.
