Armenia Seeks to Import LNG from Iran

August 21, Fineko/abc.az. Yerevan has requested a quota from Tehran for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Armenia. According to ABC.AZ, this was announced by RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan.

“I met with my colleague, the Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, and asked him to grant us quotas for liquefied gas,” the minister said. He stressed the importance of potential LNG supplies from Iran, explaining that they would help diversify gas supply sources and thereby boost competition, which in turn would contribute to lowering fuel prices.

It should be noted that this summer residents of Armenia have had to pay one and a half times more for liquefied gas at filling stations than before. The same Papoyan called on the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition of Armenia to determine why gas prices are rising. Among the cited reasons were problems on the Russian-Georgian border.
