July 7, Fineko/abc.az. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has approved the amendments to the Law on Electric Power Industry, adopted by Milli Majlis on June 21.
ABC.AZ informs that according to the amendment, the effective date of Article 13.2 of the Law has been changed (the transmission system operator, as well as legal entities in which it is a founder, either directly or indirectly participates in, or manages, are not allowed to carry out activities for the production, distribution and supply of electricity).
This article was supposed to enter into force on July 1, 2025, but now the date of its entry into force will be determined by the relevant executive authority.
Thus, the administrative and legal division of electricity generation and transmission activities to be implemented at the first stage of the introduction of elements of the electricity market (the first stage covers the period from the date of entry into force of the Law, i.e. from January 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025), will not be implemented by July 1, 2025, but within the time period determined by the relevant executive authority.
In addition, the head of state signed a decree on the application of this law and the settlement of related issues.
According to the decree, the powers of the relevant executive authority provided for in connection with the amendment of the law are exercised by the President.
The Cabinet Ministers must prepare and submit proposals to the head of state within one month on the entry into force of the updated law, and the Ministry of Energy and Azerenerji OJSC must take the necessary measures to resolve issues arising from the new law.
