June 5, Fineko/abc.az. In May 2025, the cost of living for a family of four in Istanbul increased by 49.09% against May 2024 and reached 91,722 liras ($2,344).
ABC.AZ reports that this is evidenced by data from the Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA). This is more than four times the minimum wage in the country.
For comparison, in May 2024, this amount was 61,523 liras. According to API data, the growth in April was 1.88%.
The cost of living exceeded the poverty line set by the Confederation of Trade Unions (Turk-Iş) - 81,733 liras ($2,088), that is, the amount necessary to meet the basic needs of the family.
Against this background, Turkey continues to struggle with inflation: after peaking at 85% in October 2022, the official figure dropped to 35.4% in May, although the independent ENAG group estimates it at 71.2%.
