June 5, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan will become a regional center of artificial intelligence.

ABC.AZ informs that Vugar Bayramov made this statement at the plenary session of the extraordinary session of Milli Majlis (parliament).

According to Bayramov, in the 1st quarter of this year, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the U.S. increased 2.2-fold compared with Q1 of 2025 up to $296 million: "As you can see, two countries’ strategic partnership is already reflected in both economic ties and trade turnover. This cooperation opens up new opportunities for Azerbaijan in development of artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The signed agreements, as well as activities of the AI working group, confirm that the country will be able to more actively attract technology and innovations from the U.S. in this area.

The volume of the global digital economy grew from $16 trillion up to $24 trillion last year, and the U.S. holds the largest share in it - about 25%.

According to the MP, all this creates conditions for transformation of Azerbaijan into a regional hub in the field of AI. He noted that development of AI is one of the key priorities of government policy, especially given that the country already has a regional center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Development of Azerbaijan as a regional driver in the field of AI and digitalization, in his opinion, will be an important incentive for economic diversification and formation of more modern digital ecosystem space.

He added that the share of information & communication technologies sector is 2.8% of country's non-oil GDP, which is equivalent to around 3.3 billion manats. The new agreements, he said, create additional opportunities to further increase this share.
