April 7, Fineko/abc.az. Nintendo (Japan) is postponing the pre-order of new game console Switch 2 for American customers because U.S. President Donald Trump has increased import tariffs.
ABC.AZ reports that the company decided to "assess the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions". In addition, Nintendo noted that console sales will begin on June 5 in the U.S., as well as in other countries.
Information about which countries manufacture the new game console is not disclosed. The previous version of Switch 1 was produced in China and Vietnam. If the second version is produced in the same countries, then Nintendo will have to face very high duties - 54% on Chinese goods and 46% on Vietnamese ones. According to forecasts by the IPC trade association, prices for video game consoles may rise by 50% due to increased duties in the U.S. Also on April 5, British automaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced the suspension of deliveries to the U.S. The company suspended shipments to the U.S. for a month in connection with introduction of a 25% import duty on cars. The manufacturer called it a temporary measure, "while medium- and long-term plans are being developed". About a quarter of JLR's sales accounts for the U.S.
