November 29, Fineko/abc.az. The cargo transportation across the Russian-Azerbaijani border has increased 5-fold, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Russian Deputy PM Alexey Overchuk as saying this during the 104th meeting of the CIS Economic Council in Moscow.
According to Overchukhim, the Russian government pays great attention to modernization of international checkpoints, on November 28, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin raised this issue.
He stressed that the North-South international transport corridor is a key direction that provides improved connectivity between the northern regions of our continent, the countries of the East and the Global South.
"For the first time, the position of Deputy PM responsible for transport and logistics components has appeared in the new composition of the Russian government. North-South is one of our most important directions, ensuring connectivity between the north of the continent, the countries of the East and the Global South. Speech is about creation and development of new routes to the south, new international transport corridors. We consider this task comprehensively. This applies to the Black Sea region, the Transcaucasian region and the Caspian region," Overchuk said.
The Deputy PM noted that Russia is also actively developing a western route along the coast of the Caspian Sea through the territory of Russia, Azerbaijan and further to Iran.
"Work in this area is very active. Moreover, a car route is already operating here - a modern road connecting the Russian and Iranian borders through Azerbaijan. This road is already functioning, and cargo transportation across the Russian-Azerbaijani border has increased fivefold. The government continues to pay great attention to the improvement and modernization of international checkpoints," he stressed.
