November 26, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan earned $17.63 million in foreign currency, bringing white sugar sales to Turkmenistan to 24,960 tons in the first 3 quarters of 2024.
ABC.AZ informs that Turkmenistan is the main buyer of Azerbaijani sugar. Turkmenistan has a 60 percent share as a sugar buyer in the country.
It is also the largest sugar supplier in this country. For example, in 2023, Turkmenistan purchased 27,410 tons of sugar abroad, and 21,000 tons of them from Azerbaijan.
However, in recent years, Central Asia has reduced imports of white sugar compared with previous years. In 2010s and 2020s, Azerbaijan sold 25,000 to 50,000 tons of sugar to Turkmenistan annually. The decrease in the country's total imports also affected trade with our country. India is the 2nd largest supplier of sugar to this country.
If last year a ton of white sugar was sold to Turkmenistan at average price of $721, this year it is sold for $14 cheaper - $706.
This year, Azerbaijan exported sugar abroad for a total of 41,590 tons or $31.82 million. Other main buyers of white sugar in the country are such Central Asian countries as Uzbekistan (12,670 tons) and Tajikistan (2,880 tons).
