July 5, Fineko/abc.az. In our country, work has been carried out in stages within the Action Plan to Combat the Harm of Plastic Waste & Plastic Bags. International experience has been studied, changes have been made to the legislation. Since January 1, 2021, the use and production of plastic bags with thickness of up to 15 microns is prohibited. In this regard, fines are also provided. At that, according to Cabinet Ministers’ decision, as a means of carrying goods in the markets, it was decided to issue packages up to 15-50 microns thick on a paid basis, which are issued at the cash desks.
ABC.AZ reports that Sayara Mammadova, the head of the Department of Environmental Education & Communications of the Ministry of Ecology & Natural Resources.
She noted that execution of this decision began on February 15, 2023.
"After plastic bags became paid, they began to be used less often. Observations show that the use of plastic bags has decreased from 40% to 80%. We urge citizens to minimally use plastic bags, give preference to eco-bags. These include fabric and paper bags, woven bags. In addition, reusable bags can be used. Thus, everyone could contribute to the protection of nature," Mammadova said.
