Gas prices in Asia surge

10:58 - 25.08.2022

August 25, Fineko/abc.az. The cost of the most expensive Asian futures for the supply of liquefied natural gas in January 2023 rose to about $71.3 per 1 million BTU, or almost $2,560 per thousand cubic meters, the highest price since 2021, ABC.AZ reports citing the data from CME Group.

LNG prices in Asia continue to rise following Europe after Gazprom announced the suspension of supplies via Nord Stream from August 31 to September 2, as well as the postponement of the partial resumption of the LNG terminal of the American Freeport LNG.

Another factor in the rise in prices is the intense competition in the market among developed countries, including Japan and South Korea, which are building up stocks before winter.
