May 4, Fineko/abc.az. The sixth package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation suggests a phased rejection of the import of Russian oil, ABC.AZ reports, citing European Commission’s president Ursula von der Leyen.
She noted that in fact it will not be easy.
"Some member countries are heavily dependent on Russian oil. But we need to work on this issue. We’ve made a proposal to ban oil imports from Russia. Russia's aggression against Ukraine and war crimes in the region have pushed the EU to take tougher steps in the energy sector. The region's dependence on energy imports from Russia has delayed the EU's actions in this direction," Leyen said.
