October 28, Fineko/abcnews. Switzerland’s largest lender, UBS Group AG, posted a third-quarter net profit of $2.69 billion, up 8% year-on-year, driven by robust wealth management inflows and ongoing cost synergies from its Credit Suisse integration.
Despite heightening regulatory uncertainty surrounding stricter capital requirement proposals by the Swiss parliament, UBS accelerated its capital distribution plans. The bank repurchased $1.8 billion of shares during the quarter and announced it will now complete its $3 billion share buyback program by February 2027, well ahead of its original mid-2027 timeline.
Performance was anchored by $55 billion in net new assets within Global Wealth Management and $13.2 billion in cumulative gross cost savings. However, CEO Sergio Ermotti warned that excessively stringent capital rules proposed in Bern could jeopardize UBS's global competitiveness from its Swiss home base.
