ECB Expected to Hike Interest Rates in December

10:05 - 23.10.2026

October 23, Fineko/abc.az. The European Central Bank (ECB) is expected to hold interest rates unchanged at its upcoming meeting before delivering its final rate hike of the year in December.

According to a Bloomberg survey, a majority of economists project a 25-basis-point increase in the deposit rate to 2.75%, keeping it at that level until May 2028. Although crude oil prices surging above $110 per barrel heighten inflationary risks, analysts note limited signs of wage-price spirals so far.

Meanwhile, France's benchmark bond yield reached 5% for the first time since 2002, stoking debt market concerns, though 70% of surveyed economists do not expect direct ECB intervention in sovereign bond markets.
