Getty Images Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy to Execute Financial Restructuring

12:24 - 21.10.2026

October 21, Fineko/abc.az. Visual content giant Getty Images has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware as part of a pre-agreed financial restructuring plan to strengthen its balance sheet.

Under the restructuring plan, the Getty family and Koch Equity Development will inject up to $533 million in new equity and retire $270 million of unsecured notes. The company will continue normal business operations during the process and expects to transition into a private company owned by the Getty family and Koch by the end of the year.

The move follows the collapse of Getty Images' proposed $3.7 billion merger with rival Shutterstock in July 2026 due to regulatory hurdles. As of June, Getty Images reported $2.1 billion in total debt and an $85.8 million net loss for Q2.
