October 16, Fineko/abc.az. The International Energy Agency (IEA) agreed on Thursday to release more than 20 million barrels of diesel alongside the remaining portions of its record emergency stock release pledged in March to boost global supply and bring down soaring fuel prices.
The move follows pressure from US President Donald Trump on EU member states to tap their reserves ahead of the November 3 midterms, warning that the US could otherwise ban diesel exports. Supply disruptions stemming from the Strait of Hormuz crisis and ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine have pushed diesel prices to record highs.
The 32-member IEA reaffirmed its commitment to accelerate the deployment of the remaining portion of the 400-million-barrel emergency stockpile approved in March 2026.
