September 14, Fineko/abc.az. Spot gold declined 0.3% to $4,334.31 per ounce on Monday, driven by surging oil prices and growing expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike this week. Following August inflation data, market odds for a Fed rate increase jumped to 86.5%, up from 67% last week. Impending monetary tightening from the Bank of Japan is further weighing on precious metals sentiment.
Concurrently, crude oil prices jumped over 2% following supply disruptions in Saudi Arabia and heightened geopolitical risks in the Middle East, compounding global inflation concerns.
In other precious metals, spot silver slipped 0.7% to $64.02 per ounce, while platinum traded flat at $1,796.90 and palladium held steady at $1,298.80.
