August 21, Fineko/abc.az. Gold prices advanced on Friday, positioning the precious metal for its third straight weekly gain. The rally was supported by a weakening US dollar and the US Treasury's announcement to expand its bond buyback program.
Spot gold rose 0.5% to $4,540.18 per ounce, marking a 3.6% gain for the week, while US gold futures increased 0.6% to $4,596.60.
A softer dollar has made greenback-denominated metals more attractive for overseas investors. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to scale up long-term bond buyback operations to at least $4 billion in the coming quarter. Meanwhile, steady US labor market data pushed the market probability of the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates unchanged next month to 64%.
Other precious metals also advanced, with spot silver rising to $68.92/oz, platinum to $1,872.64/oz, and palladium to $1,351.28/oz.
