August 18, Fineko/abc.az. Gold prices advanced for a third consecutive session on Tuesday, driven by a softer US dollar and diminishing expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate hike next month.
Spot gold rose 0.2% to $4,424.28 per ounce, while US gold futures gained 0.2% to $4,480.90. Soft economic data in the US has led investors to price in roughly a 65% probability that the Fed will keep rates unchanged in September. Escalating geopolitical tensions involving Iran have further underscored gold's appeal as a safe-haven asset.
Among other precious metals, spot silver climbed 0.9% to $66.40 per ounce and platinum edged up 0.2% to $1,772.75, while palladium dropped 0.3% to $1,330.05.
