Chicago Fed's Goolsbee Calls Inflation the Main Problem Facing U.S. Economy

August 11, Fineko/abc.az. Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Austan Goolsbee stated that high inflation remains a greater concern for the U.S. economy than any potential labor market weakness.

In an interview with Wired, Goolsbee highlighted that prices have been rising too fast, characterizing the labor market as "stable, without being good". Although the Fed held its benchmark policy rate steady at 3.50%-3.75% on July 29, ongoing inflationary pressures have left investors weighing an equal probability of a rate hike or another pause at the upcoming September meeting.
