US Short-Term Inflation Expectations Ease to 3.6% in July

August 7, Fineko/abc.az. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York released its July Survey of Consumer Expectations. Based on response data from roughly 1,300 households, median one-year-ahead inflation expectations dipped by 0.1 percentage point from the previous month to 3.6%.

Medium- and long-term inflation expectations remained unchanged at 3.3% and 3.0%, respectively. Gas price growth expectations rebounded by 1.4 percentage points to 2.9%. Conversely, expected cost increases for rent dropped by 2.4 percentage points to 5.9%, and medical care costs declined by 0.5 percentage point to 8.9%. Regarding the labor market, the expected mean probability of higher unemployment rose to 42.8%, though overall household financial outlooks showed signs of improvement.
