Putin: Fuel Market Difficulties Temporary, Russian Economy Remains Resilient

20:40 - 22.07.2026

July 22, Fineko/abc.az. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that current difficulties in the fuel market are temporary and do not pose a threat to the country's economic development. Despite external pressure, key industries continue to demonstrate resilience.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, GDP grew by 0.3% in May and 0.2% over the first five months of the year. The economy remains supported by domestic demand, including government, corporate, and consumer spending. The federal budget recorded a surplus of 196 billion rubles in June, with non-oil and gas revenues surging by 25% in the second quarter.

The surge in fuel prices has been attributed to unplanned maintenance at oil refineries. In response, authorities have enacted several measures: boosting domestic market supplies, allowing importers to receive damper payments, and introducing a temporary export ban on gasoline, diesel, and kerosene.
