US Democrats Block $1.15 Trillion Defense Budget Over Iran Conflict

21:17 - 15.07.2026

July 15, Fineko/abc.az. Democrats in the U.S. Senate have blocked the advancement of the $1.15 trillion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), accusing President Donald Trump of bypassing Congress in his military actions toward Iran.

The bill received a 50-46 vote, failing to reach the 60-vote threshold required to clear procedural hurdles in the 100-member Senate. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the administration, stating that Trump launched this conflict without congressional authorization or a clear strategy.

Democrats also oppose scaling up military spending (including an additional $350 billion budget request) while domestic social programs face cuts. The reconciliation process between the House and the Senate is still ongoing.
