U.S. and Iran agree to unlock $12 bn in frozen assets

June 23, Fineko/abc.az. The unlocking of $12 bn in frozen Iranian assets was finally agreed upon during negotiations with the U.S. in Switzerland, ABC.AZ informs, quoting parliament’s speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is the head of the Iranian delegation.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the total amount of blocked Iranian assets worldwide could be as high as $100 bn. Between $20 bn and $50 bn may be in the PRC. Some of the funds have been frozen since 1979, when the Islamic revolution took place in the country.

The U.S. and Iran held talks on June 21. Representatives of the mediating countries, Pakistan and Qatar, said that the meeting was held in a positive and constructive manner.
