May 4, Fineko/abc.az. KazMunayGas held talks in Astana with the Japanese side about possible supplies of Kazakh oil to Japan on mutually beneficial terms, as well as on expanding cooperation in exploration.

ABC.AZ informs that the parties also discussed the projects within the JCM mechanism, participation of Japanese companies in the modernization of energy facilities and oil refining in Kazakhstan, as well as possible production of sustainable aviation fuel.

It is separately noted that Japanese business is already involved in the environmental modernization of the ANPZ (Atyrau Oil Refinery) and is considering new investment projects, however, direct purchases of Kazakh oil by Japan remain economically impractical.
