Household waste recycling project for nearly 47 million manats underway in Absheron

April 20, Fineko/abc.az. The Azerbaijani government is considering a project on improvement of the solid waste management system in Absheron.

ABC.AZ reports that the project initiator is Holcim Azerbaijan. The concept provides for the organization of waste drying in Sumgait city and Garadagh district of Baku. The alternative fuel obtained as a result of processing is planned to be used as an energy source at the company's cement plant.

Within the project, at the expense of public investments in the amount of approx. 30.8 million manats, it is planned to create two waste drying centers in Garadagh district of Baku and the city of Sumgayit (27.6 million manats), as well as purchase machinery and equipment for transporting produced alternative fuels to Holcim cement plant (3.2 million manats).

At the first stage, it is planned to process 200,000 tons of solid household waste a year (100,000 tons at each facility), which will produce up to 105,000 tons of alternative fuels annually.

In addition, the terms of the project envisage attraction of private investmentsby Holcim Azerbaijan in the amount of 16 million manats, which will be used to install equipment for the use of alternative fuels at a cement plant.

Thus, the total cost of the project may reach roughly 47 million manats.
