February 3, Fineko/abc.az. In 2025, there were drastic changes in the monetary operations of banks in Azerbaijan compared to 2024. Population's interest in euro cash has decreased compared to previous years.
In 2025, the cash purchases by banks in euros increased by 36.46% against 2024, from €131.09 million up to €178.87 million, ABC.AZ informs with reference to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
At the same time, banks' cash sales in euros fell by 20.90% year-on-year, from €202.72 million to €160.37 million.
As a result of those changes, the direction of the net cash flow of euros has changed. So, if in 2024 the net inflow of funds from banks to the population amounted to €71.63 million, then in 2025 the net cash flow from the population to banks - €18.50 million.
Since the Azerbaijani manat is pegged to the US dollar at the exchange rate of 1.7 USD/AZN, the value of the manat against other currencies mainly depends on the change in the dollar against these currencies. In 2025, strengthening of the euro area's single currency against the dollar has led to depreciation of the manat to the euro. So, if at the beginning of 2025 €1 was 1.7724 manats, by the end of the year this figure increased up to 2.0022 manats. As a result, in 2025, the euro rose in price by almost 13% against the manat.
