Iranian rial almost depreciates

12:19 - 13.01.2026

January 13, Fineko/abc.az. The Iranian national currency is experiencing one of the deepest crises in its history.

ABC.AZ informs that against the backdrop of years of international sanctions, high inflation and restrictions on oil exports, rial's exchange rate against the dollar and the euro has dropped sharply to record lows.

The economic crisis is increasing social tensions in the country.

The rapid decline in the exchange rate of the national currency, observed since the end of December 2025, is accompanied by an increase in inflation and a sharp rise in the price of food and essential goods.

This significantly complicates the daily life of the population and contributes to the intensification of protest sentiments in society.
