Forecast: Share of gold in SOFAZ's investment portfolio next year to be 4%

December 29, Fineko/abc.az. The size of the investment portfolio of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) for 2026 is estimated at an average of $64.8 billion.

ABC.AZ informs that this is reflected in the decree signed today by President Ilham Aliyev on SOFAZ’s budget for 2026.

The base currency of SOFAZ's investment portfolio is the US dollar, and investment portfolio of 85% will be formed from SOFAZ’s assets in US dollars, euros and pounds sterlings.

It is stipulated that 30% of SOFAZ’s investment portfolio (with deviation of no more than 10%) should be placed during the year in debt obligations and money market instruments, up to 25% (with maximum deviation of 3%) in stocks, up to 10% (with maximum deviation of 3%) in real estate, up to 35% (with maximum deviation of 4%) - in gold.

As of October 1, 2025, SOFAZ's assets amounted to $70.16 billion (16.9% more than on January 1). The increase was mainly due to higher prices for gold purchased by the Fund. Currently, the precious metal is trading at the price of approx. $4,500 per ounce on commodity exchanges.
