CBA: Long-term investments in manats grow rapidly

December 26, Fineko/abc.az. In December 2025, foreign citizens’ deposits in Azerbaijani banks continued to grow and reached the highest level in recent years, while long-term investments in manats grew rapidly.

The overall deposits of foreigners amounted to 1.442 billion manats (219 million manats, or about 17.90% more versus December 2024).

ABC.AZ informs, referring to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, that as of December 1, 2024, this figure was 1.223 billion manats.

Despite the fact that foreigners placed most of their deposits in Azerbaijan in foreign currency, deposits held in the national currency showed faster growth and reached 548 million manats. The annual increase amounted to 137 million manats or 33.30%.

The closer look at the portfolio shows that 276 million manats of those funds are short-term.

The main point is the long-term value of the remaining 271.9 million manats in manats.

Deposits in foreign currency totaled 894 million manats and grew by 82 million manats or (by 10.10%) compared with the 2024 same term.

Since December 2023, the total number of deposits has increased by 211 million manats (+17.10%), and by 377 million manats (+35.40%) compared to December 2022. Deposits in national currency have increased by a total of 245 million manats (+80.90%) over the past 3 years and have become the main source of growth in this segment. And deposits in foreign currency grew by 132 million manats, or 17.30%.
