November 21, Fineko/abc.az. The tax policy in Azerbaijan is quite soft.

ABC.AZ informs that MP Tahir Mirkishili made the relevant statement at today's MIlli Majlis plenary session in the first reading of a package of amendments to the Tax Code and 16 laws included in the package of State Budget 2026.

"The tax is the most natural and correct source of revenue for the State Budget. If we achieve that most of the budget revenues are generated from taxes, this will be one of the greatest results in the economic policy of the Azerbaijani state. Currently, out of every 100 manats of budget revenues, 44 manats are generated from taxes, and 18 manats are generated from customs. For comparison, in Georgia, 78% of budget revenues are formed by taxes. And in Turkey, this figure is 86%. This suggests that the tax policy in Azerbaijan is quite soft, the tax burden is much lower than in other countries, and gives reason to say that the economic policy of the state is really socially-oriented," he said.

In addition, according to the MP, work needs to be done to increase the tax base, not tax rates: "In Azerbaijan, tax rates are set by law, and in recent years I do not remember that a bill was submitted to parliament to raise any tax rate. We have always talked about tax benefits and tax exemptions. Currently, Azerbaijan has exemptions for up to 20% of State Budget revenues - 7.3 billion manats. Of them, nearly 3.5 billion. manats – customs exemptions, and 3.8 billion manats is an exemption for entrepreneurship."
