August 1, Fineko/abc.az. Pakistan has purchased a shipment of oil from the U.S. for the first time in its history. Cnergyico will import 1 million barrels of American crude West Texas Intermediate (WTI) in October.

Cnergyico vice president, Osama Qureshi, said the acquisition was made from Vitol, an international commodities trader.

"This is a test batch as part of our long-term agreement. If it turns out to be commercially profitable and affordable, we will be able to import at least one batch per month," he said.

The oil purchase deal came a few months after U.S. President Donald Trump warned about the imposition of heavy duties on Pakistani exports.

This has prompted Islamabad to diversify its energy and commercial ties with other countries besides Washington.
