Milli Majlis adopts amendments to Law on Electric Power Industry

15:20 - 8.07.2025

July 8, Fineko/abc.az. At the next plenary session of Milli Majlis, which is taking place today, a bill on amendments to the Draft Law on Electric Power Industry was passed in the third reading.

ABC.AZ informs that the document envisages the application of a fixed tariff in the electric power sector.

In international practice, there are cases of using a fixed tariff when regulating tariffs and prices for electricity. The main essence of the fixed tariff is that consumers connected to the network pay a certain amount monthly in the form of fixed expenses. The fixed tariff is not related to the volume of consumption, is applied regardless of the consumer category and is used to cover certain costs of the distribution system operator.

The draft law defines a fixed tariff as a monthly tariff element applied to each consumer in order to cover part of the fixed costs that do not depend on the level of electricity consumption determined by the regulator.

The draft law also regulates the rights and obligations of the electricity supplier and the consumer in connection with the application of a fixed tariff, as well as issues arising from the application of a fixed tariff.
