July 1, Fineko/abc.az. With implementation of a joint project by the Government of Azerbaijan and the World Bank to expand the use of renewable energy sources, the country will be able to integrate 1.8 gigawatts of electricity into the grid.
ABC.AZ informs that WB manager for Azerbaijan, Stephanie Stahlmeister, madethe relevant statement at the signing ceremony of the loan agreement for $173.5 million for the named project.
"After the completion of the mentioned project, Azerbaijan will be able to integrate 1.8 gigawatts of electricity into the network. Of course, this is a very great achievement. In addition, the project will expand private sector investments in this area, which is important for development of Azerbaijan's renewable energy sector," she said.
According to Stahlmeister, Azerbaijan is transforming into a country of green energy.
"The country has taken steps and committed itself to development of the green energy sector both during COP29 and after this event. We hope this new project will be followed by others," she added.
Stressing the successful continuation of cooperation with Azerbaijan as a reliable partner, Stahlmeister expressed confidence in the continued contribution of the World Bank Group to the sustainable and inclusive development of the country by supporting projects that meet the priorities of Azerbaijan's socio-economic development.
