Net profit of Azerbaijan's banking sector lowered by 17%

June 25, Fineko/abc.az. Over Jan-May 2025, the banking sector of Azerbaijan earned 430.7 million manats of net profit, 708.2 million manats of operating profit and paid income tax for 109 million manats.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the CBA that compared with Jan-May 2024, the net profit reduced by 17.1%.

The total assets of the domestic banking sector amounted to 56.549 billion manats, overall liabilities - 49.69 billion manats, balance sheet capital - 6.859 billion manats.

Compared to the previous month, the bank's assets increased by 3.6% and its liabilities by 4.3%.

The loan portfolio grew by 1%, or 290 million manats, up to 28.386 billion manats for the reported month.

The loan portfolio is formed as follows:

Business loans - 53.2% (15.1 million manats)

Consumer loans – 31.3% (8.98 billion manats)

Mortgage loans – 15.5% (4.404.6 million manats)

The main part of the banks' liabilities are deposits – 38.179 billion manats (76.8% of the overall liabilities).

For legal entities, the share in the deposit portfolio was 61.4% (23.445 billion manats) and for individuals - 38.6% (14.734 billion manats).

In May, 66.7% of individual deposits (9.835 billion manats) were held in national currency, while 33.3% (4.899 billion manats) in foreign currency.

62.4% of deposits (9.889 billion manats) were term deposits. In May, term deposits increased by 0.7% (62.7 million manats), while demand deposits by 2.3% (123.6 million manats).

The number of unique term depositors grew by 3,205 or 2% for the reported month, and by 14,542 or 9.7% since the beginning of the year.

Demand deposits of legal entities amounted to 18.223 billion manats (77.7% of the total deposits of legal entities).

As of May 31, 2025, the country's 22 banks numbered 494 branches, 87 sub-branches and 3,332 ATMs.

The number of employees in the banking sector increased by 26 people, or 0.1%, up to 25,965 people.
