Temu halts supplies from China to U.S. because of tariffs

May 5, Fineko/abc.az. Chinese online store Temu has stopped shipping goods from China to the U.S. in response to the increase in import tariffs imposed by the administration of Donald Trump. The company continues to ship products that are already in U.S. warehouses, but other items are marked as missing.

ABC.AZ informs that Temu managed to keep prices at record lows thanks to the de minimis rule, which allowed for duty-free import of goods worth up to $800 starting in 2016. The rule ended on May 2, 2025, in accordance with a decree signed by Trump last month. The U.S. also imposed a 145% duty on goods from China.

All these decisions forced Temu to raise prices, suspend aggressive online advertising, and change the range of products available to American customers.

At the end of April, American buyers faced a mark-up of 130 to 150% on goods at Temu. Now the company promises the same prices, but the range will be limited by availability in warehouses in the USA.
