Trump's new package of tariffs has taken effect for goods from around the world

April 9, Fineko/abc.az. A new package of duties imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump has entered into force for goods imported from dozens of countries around the world. This round of retaliatory tariffs exceeds the 10% base rate introduced for many countries over the weekend, ABC.AZ reports, referring to CNBC.

Now, imports from 86 countries are subject to higher tariffs, ranging from 11% to 84%. China will face total duties of 104% on its goods exported to the U.S.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said U.S.’ decision to impose higher tariffs on China was a mistake. China has promised to respond to these U.S.’ actions.

After China, Lesotho is subject to the highest tariff rate, whose goods exported to the U.S. are subject to a 50% duty. Cambodia follows Lesotho with tariffs of 49%. Cambodia's neighbors in Southeast Asia, Laos and Vietnam, are subject to duties of 48% and 46%, respectively.

U.S. stock indexes have been falling for four days in a row since Trump's announcement of new tariffs on April 2. The U.S. administration is ignoring concerns about the recession.

Against the background of the entry into force of tariffs, a sale began in Asian markets. The Indian central bank, in an effort to support growth, cut its key rate by 25 basis points to 6% shortly after the U.S. tariffs were imposed; Indian exports to the U.S. are subject to a 26% duty.
