October 25, Fineko/abc.az. Demand for gas in India could double by 2040 due to the country's population growth, economic growth, as well as a move towards cleaner energy sources.
ABC.AZ reports that this forecast was given by the experts of Rystad Energy.
According to their estimates, demand will reach 113.7 bcm compared with 65 bcm in 2023.
The growth in demand for gas in India is supported by an internal increase in its production. Gas production in India will reach 36.7 bcm by 2025, that is, it will grow by 51% versus the level of 2020, analysts predict.
An increase in domestic production, however, will not be able to meet the growing demand, Interfax notes. Thus, India will continue to be a major importer of natural gas. Realizing this, the country signs long-term contracts guaranteeing its gas supplies until 2030 and beyond.
