Azerbaijan's energy links, such as six oil and gas pipelines connecting continents and seas, are real examples of the integration of the Chinese megaproject with our national initiatives: "Plans to create 7 GW of green energy capacity by 2030 and export 5 GW of them along the
Caspian-European Union and Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe corridors, as well as the transmission of electricity from Central Asia to our country, and from here to Europe, will enrich the "One Belt, One Road" with "green" connections".
"One Belt, One Road" has already confirmed that this is a wise initiative with growing role in transforming the geo-economic landscape in Eurasia.
ABC.AZ reports that Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov stated aboutthis during his speech at high-level event on "Ties" within the 3rd Forum of International Cooperation "One Belt, One Road" in China. It was noted at the event that Azerbaijan, which has been actively involved in this initiative since the first days and contributes to numerous transport and energy links, is currently implementing a large strategic development course under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, which strengthens the shortest route from China to Europe - the Middle Corridor. In particular, it was noted that the volume of cargo transported by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has been increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons, and the capacity of the Baku Commercial Port has increased from today's 15 million tons to 25 million tons, the Digital Silk Road project is being implemented.
The minister also spoke about the role of friendly relations between the heads of state in development of bilateral cooperation, joint projects and dynamics of relations. As examples, growth of trade turnover last year by 21%, the transit traffic from China through Azerbaijan in the Western and reverse directions by 60% and activities of more than 200 Chinese companies in our country were noted.
