September 8, Fineko/abc.az. Georgia must fulfill another 9 out of 12 conditions in order to obtain the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union.
ABC.AZ reports that the head of community diplomacy Josep Borrel stated about this at a press conference in Tbilisi, where he is on a visit.
"The European Commission has presented 12 priorities. You have completed 3 of them, 9 still remain," Borrel said.
"And at such an important moment, I want to make it clear: the doors of the European Union are open for Georgia, and the European Union seeks to support Georgia on its path to EU membership... But I also have to say that applying for EU membership is a serious commitment. And candidate status is not something that countries can automatically qualify for. It must be earned by serious reforms and commitment to European values, and, frankly, there is still a lot of work to be done on this side," he said.
