Total state debt to amount to AZM 17.5 bn

August 1, Fineko/abc.az. By January 1, 2024, Azerbaijan’s external public debt is expected to reach $6.38 bn (AZN 10.847 bn), internal public debt – AZN 6.688 bn, and total public debt – AZN 17.536 bn.

ABC.AZ reports that this is stated in the Finance Ministry’s Certificate on the semi-annual execution of the state and consolidated budgets for 2023 and the document on expectations for the end of the year.

By January 1, 2024, 49% of the external public debt will have to be repaid by creditors for up to 5 years, 42.6% - for the period of 5 to 10 years and 8.4% for the period of more than 10 years. The raised new debt obligations on external public debt will be attracted for the period of up to 10 years at appropriate reference rate plus 0.65%, for the period of 10-20 years at appropriate reference rate plus 0.8%, and for the period of more than 20 years at appropriate reference rate plus 0.9%.

Government bonds issued on domestic financial markets will account for 40.5% of domestic government debt. By the end of the year, 13% of government bonds in circulation will be 1-year bonds, 66.1% — 2-3-year bonds, and 20.9% — 5-7-year bonds. The cost of servicing the domestic public debt will amount to 265 million.

The deficit of revised State Budget 2023 has been increased by AZN 155 million and brought up to AZN 2.734 bn. Financing of increase in deficit will be ensured at the expense of finances raised from domestic borrowing and additional proceeds from privatization. The ratio of deficit to expected GDP at the end of this year will be 2.5%.
