July 24, Fineko/abc.az. Türkiye intends to make it more difficult for foreigners to obtain Turkish citizenship as part of the process of membership in the European Union.
ABC.AZ reports that newspaper Hurriyet writes about this, citing diplomatic sources.
"A new step is planned to be taken in Türkiye’s immigration policy, which is one of the most important issues. In this regard, studies are being conducted aimed at complicating the granting of Turkish citizenship to asylum seekers, especially Syrians. In other words, from now on Türkiye will take a more careful approach to granting citizenship to asylum seekers," the paper writes.
The publication, referring to diplomatic sources, notes that, having received Turkish citizenship, migrants often go further to Europe. With the cooperation of the EU and Türkiye, the flow of migrants can be controlled.
According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, about 5 million migrants live in the country today. Operations are planned to combat illegal migrants in Türkiye.
Turkish citizenship can be obtained today when buying a property worth at least $400,000.
