Inflation in May exceeded expectations in UK

June 21, Fineko/abc.az. The inflation in the UK for May turned out to be higher than expected, as consumer prices rose by 8.7% year-on-year.

ABC.AZ reports that analysts surveyed by portal DailyFX predicted annual inflation at 8.4%, and a monthly increase of 0.5%.

On a monthly basis, the overall consumer price index increased by 0.7%, while core inflation, which does not include volatile prices for energy, food, alcohol and tobacco products, grew by 7.1% year-on-year compared to 6.8% in April and the highest level since March 1992 in the National Statistical Office (ONS).
