June 20, Fineko/abc.az. Apple forces 111-year-old Fruit Union Suisse to change its logo, which depicts a red apple with a white cross, in the form of a Swiss flag.
ABC.AZ reports that Jimmy Marietoz, director of Fruit Union Suisse (an organization of Swiss farmers engaged in fruit cultivation), said in an interview for American edition Wired that he was concerned that Apple's new desire to obtain intellectual property rights to apple would force them to change their logo.
He added that their trademark has nothing to do with the bitten apple of the Cupertino company.
He added: "Their goal here is actually to own the rights to the real apple, which for us is something really almost universal... which should be free for everyone."
The tech giant also tried to protect the trademark in Switzerland in 2017. According to an application filed with the Swiss Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI), Apple wanted to protect the intellectual property rights to a black-and-white image of an apple variety authored by Granny Smith. In the end, IPI granted partial rights to Apple.
However, in 2021, Apple lost a trademark lawsuit against the Swiss Federal Railways and was forced to pay a settlement fee of $21 million. Then it was proved that the Cupertino company copied the design of the Swiss railway clock.
