December 22, Fineko/abc.az. The possibilities of Russia's political and economic influence on the CIS countries will gradually decrease, ABC.AZ reports with reference to Fitch Solutions’ report on risks & industry research by country for 2023.
"We believe that in 2023 Russia's position in Central Asia and the Caucasus will be even lower, since the war in Ukraine diverts resources and attention from the country's former "sphere of influence". Not only will Russia not strengthen its influence in the regions, but the governments of Central Asia and the Caucasus will make active efforts to reduce Russia's dependence on economic support and security. For larger states, such as Kazakhstan, Russia's relative weakness may provide opportunities for greater independence, while smaller states, such as Armenia, may try to replace Russia with new partners," Fitch Solutions comments.
