Amount of frozen Russian finances in Belgium has increased to €50.5 bn

August 2, Fineko/abc.az. The Belgian authorities have frozen €50.5 bn belonging to Russian individuals, companies and other legal entities that have been sanctioned, ABC.AZ reports with reference to newspaper Nieuwsblad.

In April, Brussels sounded another figure of frozen Russian assets - €3.5 bn. Three weeks ago, according to the newspaper, the European Commissioner of Justice Didier Reynders announced that at that time funds in the amount of €13.8 bn were frozen in the EU. He pointed out that more than €12 bn was frozen by five member states, without specifying which ones.

Today, the financial assets of Russians, frozen in Belgium, consist of both direct cash and various financial instruments, particularly securities. They belong to 110 legal entities, banks and companies, as well as 1,229 individuals, mainly Russian politicians and oligarchs. Some of them have been under sanctions since 2014, after the annexation of Crimea to Russia, but most were added to the sanctions list in 2022.
