August 11, Fineko/abc.az. The National Bank of Romania has decided to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 6.5%, in line with market expectations.
Political tensions slowing necessary reforms for EU funds have led officials to keep borrowing costs stable for nearly two years. The central bank highlighted risks stemming from global oil, electricity, and food prices affected by drought.
However, the regulator projects a significant drop in annual inflation in the third quarter, with a gradual decrease to the 1.5%–3.5% target range by the end of 2026.
