July 21, Fineko/abc.az. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described U.S.’ decision to impose 50-percent customs duties on a number of Canadian goods as a "unilateral trade action".
In an official statement, the head of the Canadian government noted that this step violates the CUSMA (Canada-USA-Mexico) agreement, including in terms of regulating the automotive sector.
Carney stressed that Ottawa stands for free and fair trade and will take all necessary measures to protect local businesses, farmers, and workers.
Earlier, the U.S. announced the imposition of tariffs, accusing Canada of "discriminatory" practices against American products.
