In Washington, they believe that development of the conflict will depend on the actions of Tehran.

According to Axios, the cause of the escalation was breakdown of previous agreements on the cessation of hostilities. The U.S. does not rule out intensifying the military campaign, especially if attacks on commercial vessels continue.

Tehran has announced its readiness to retaliate. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that new strikes would lead to an escalation of the conflict.

US Vice President J.D. Vance emphasized that operations would continue as necessary to ensure freedom of navigation, which Washington considers a key element of global energy security.
