June 30, Fineko/abc.az. In 2027, the construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant, called Balkhash, will begin.

ABC.AZ reports that Russian state corporation Rosatom will act as the head of the consortium responsible for the construction of the facility.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the decision to build a nuclear power plant, adopted at the referendum in 2024, is the right step and is of great importance, given Kazakhstan's leading position in uranium production and the availability of the relevant infrastructure.

According to the Head of State, nuclear energy will ensure Kazakhstan's energy sovereignty and become a reliable foundation for the energy-intensive digital economy of the future.
